David Willey is a professional cricketer for Northamptonshire and a former England international, known for his explosive left-arm pace and powerful hitting.
Cricket runs deep in David’s veins. His father played for both Northamptonshire and England, and David spent his childhood immersed in the sport, growing up around cricket grounds and dreaming of wearing the England shirt himself.
His path hasn’t been without challenges. At 16, David was told he wasn’t good enough to play professional cricket. But that moment fuelled his determination and sparked a resilient mindset that has defined his career. From rising through the Northamptonshire academy to lifting the T20 World Cup with England, David has proved time and again that perseverance and belief are key to success.
For David, physical and mental recovery are essential to staying match-ready. Training, travel, and back-to-back fixtures take a toll, and ice baths have become a vital tool in his recovery routine. Chill Tubs provides the consistent cold therapy he needs to recover faster, reduce inflammation, and maintain peak performance.
With Chill Tubs supporting his recovery, David stays sharper, fresher, and ready for whatever challenge comes next on and off the pitch.
What’s been the most defining moment of your career so far?
“Being part of the T20 World Cup-winning squad in Australia was a huge moment for me. I didn’t play in the final, but after missing out on the 2019 World Cup and battling through injuries, just being there meant everything. Having my wife and kids there made it even more special, it felt like a reward for all the hard work and resilience it took to get there.”

How have injuries shaped your recovery approach over the years?
“I’ve had stress fractures, shoulder surgeries and a torn hip tendon. All of it tested me physically and mentally. Over time, I’ve learned that recovery isn’t optional; it’s essential. Ice baths have become a key part of that routine, helping me stay fit, manage inflammation and keep performing at a high level, especially during busy schedules.”

How have ice baths changed your recovery routine and mindset?
“Before using ice baths properly, my recovery was pretty average. Since then, they’ve become a key part of my routine, not just for reducing inflammation but also for switching off mentally. They help me reset, stay focused and handle the demands of both cricket and everyday life.”

How did your cold water therapy and ice bath journey begin?
“My ice bath journey actually started with my wife. She was dealing with health issues and decided to jump into a freezing river in the middle of winter. I had no choice but to follow her in. From that moment, cold therapy became part of our routine. Over time, I saw the physical and mental benefits, and now it’s a regular tool for recovery, stress relief and staying grounded.”

How do you use Chill Tubs and what benefits have you noticed?
“How I use my Chill Tubs Original depends on the season. During matches, I’ll get in after games to reduce inflammation and speed up recovery. In training blocks, I tend to use it before sessions to stay sharp. Mentally, it’s just as important. It helps me reset, slow things down and feel more in control, especially when life gets hectic.”

“Has using Chill Tubs improved your recovery and performance?”
“At 35, I feel as fit as ever, and Chill Tubs have played a big role in that. Recovery gets harder as you get older, so staying consistent is key. Using cold therapy has helped me manage inflammation, bounce back faster and maintain performance across a busy schedule.”
